Dr. Larry Bloomstein
Dr. Larry Bloomstein is a board certified orthopedic surgeon with additional fellowship subspecialty training in two fields:
- Foot & ankle
- Orthopedic Trauma
Dr. Larry Bloomstein grew up in Livingston, NJ and is a graduate of Livingston High School. He attended Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania where he double majored in both Biology and Economics. After graduating college, he earned his doctorate in medicine from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Bloomstein completed his orthopaedic training at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. His training included pediatric orthopaedics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Orthopaedic Trauma at Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Following his residency he completed his first fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the world renowned Campbell Clinic in Memphis, Tennessee which is affiliated with the University of Tennessee. The Campbell Clinic is well known for authoring the predominant text book of orthopaedic surgery “Campbell’s Operative Orthopaedics” and for continually releasing updated editions as orthopaedic surgery evolves.
During his fellowship, Dr. Bloomstein was part of a relief mission to help the earthquake victims in Haiti in 2010. In a five day period, the team of eight orthopaedic surgeons from around the country operated on over fifty patients who survived the earthquake. In many of the cases, the team was able to perform definitive operations to restore the patients to an independent level of function.
After working for four years as an orthopaedic trauma surgeon in New Jersey, Dr. Bloomstein completed a second fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the specialty of foot & ankle. He brings foot and ankle orthopedic expertise from one of the nation’s top orthopedic teaching institutions. He shadowed several pioneers in total ankle replacement and other joint sparing operations in the treatment foot and ankle disorders.
In addition to his interest in foot and ankle orthopedics, Dr. Bloomstein specializes in the management of injuries involving the joints of the pelvis, upper and lower extremities. He is focused on both non-operative and operative treatments and helping patients achieve an improved level of function and restore independence following an injury. He enjoys treating patients of all age groups whether it is a young child with a broken bone or an elderly person with osteoporosis. Understanding that every patient and every injury is unique, Dr. Bloomstein focuses on patient specific treatments to optimize outcomes based on the individual’s personal goals.
He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a fellow of the American board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member The Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society.
Outside of work Larry Bloomstein enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He enjoys outdoor activities including golf, running, skiing, snowboarding and watersports. He has an interest in raising awareness for preeclampsia and HELLP syndrome.
